Donegan Family History
This is both a royal and noble surname. Recorded in several spelling forms including O'Donegan, Donegan, Dunican, Dungan, and Doonican, this small Irish clan, divided into four branches or septs, originates from the 10th century kings of a region called Fernmhagh, in what is now Coiunty Westmeath. As befits a "royal" family, their numbers, are quite small. In the 20th century only some two hundred families are recorded in the whole of Ireland. This was not so in the seventeenth century and earlier, when the O'Donegans held the manor of Kildrought. Thomas Donegan, from this family being earl of Limerick, and creater of the 1686 Don(e)gan Charter, whereby the city of New York was passed by the Dutch to Britain...Select Audience

My name is Margie McCartney and I grew up in Pelham NY. Sarah Cecilia Donegan was my maternal grandmother who married John Ray Maust. He was from West Virginia and her family was from Cork but had moved to NYC. I am trying to find the Donegans from Cork so I can return for my 23rd visit to Ireland in my life. Was only in Cork once at 19 and had no information then and don't have a ton more now. I think her father was Daniel and her mother was Anne McDonald Donegan from a town called Quin by the Bridge in Northern Ireland. I have crawled thru their cemetary trying to find her but she was probably buried in Cork? NY?

Hello my great grandfather is also Patrick Donegan named above from Drogheda.

Can anyone tell me anymore about this family. My great grandfather was Patrick Donegan from Drogheda. He was born about 1840s and had a sibling called Margaret. Patrick's father was called Michael Donegan born 1824 and his mother was Margaret Reilly. Michael had a twin brother called Nicholas. Michael and Nicholas parents were John Donegan and Rose Moonan.
