MULDOON Family History

Recorded in the spellings of Muldoon and Meldon, this is a famous Irish surname of royal origins. It is specifically associated with the province of Ulster and particularly County Fermanagh. Historically it is said that the O'Maolduin's (as spelt in the Gaelic) were of royal birth, being styled as the kings of Lurg in the book known as 'The annals of Loch Ce'. However in about the year 1400 the clan was defeated in battle by the MacGuires, and whilst they continued to be of importance in Ulster, elsewhere in the country their power bases gradually faded away. It seems that in County Clare for instance, the Muldoons became Malones, whilst in County Sligo, where they inhabited the barony of Tireragh, they were virtually extinct by 1830...

My name is Brian T Muldoon son to Brian R Muldoon and Grandson to Tom and Ann Muldoon. Born in US, MD live in TX. I've invited my father to this website bc he has far more information to offer up than I do. I know we have direct family(fathers cousins) in FL and one of my uncles(Marty) is in CA. I believe a family member in Maine has done a family tree dating back before our particular line came to the states.

Muldoon First found in Counties Sligo, Fermanagh, and Tyrone, Muldoon comes from the Irish Gaelic name O Maolduin- maol meaning chieftain and dun meaning fortress. Muldoons are also anglicized as the surname Mulroney andor Malone. Keller Clark
