MCCOY Family History
Recorded as McCoy and sometimes McKoy, this interesting surname is of Irish, Scottish and Manx origins. It is a developed form of the Old Gaelic Mac Aodha, meaning the son of Fire, originally the name of a Celtic pagan god. The McCoys came to Ireland as gallowglasses, their home territory being the Isel of Man and the southern isles of Scotland such as Islay. In Ireland the surname is chiefly found in the Counties of Armagh and Monaghan with a sprinkling in County Limerick and even far away in Cork. The name dates back to the late 11th Century (see below), and it is said that there are at least fifteen forms of the name including: McCoy, Mckay, McKoy, McKey, McKee McCay, McKie, and even McGee, although this is disputed by some researchers...Select Audience

I am researching my McCoy ancestor Harry Donald McCoy b. 1879 in Dublin. He is possibly the son of James/ Jacobus and Mary/ Marie Organ. In @ 1901 he emigrated possibly to Canada first but ended up in Montevideo, Chippewa, Minnesota. He abandoned his wife Elizabeth Collins and son Donald James @ 1908. Marrying twice more probably without divorcing Elizabeth. 2nd wife was Delora May Rich Mock (1876-1922) in La Junta, Otero, Colorado. Wife 3 was Ila Lin Teryl Standerfer ( 1891-1960) Vancouver, Clark, Washington. He also lived in California. B. 14 May 1879 d, 28 March.He was inconsistent in multiple sources concerning his b. Place etc.

I am looking for Alexander McCoy married to Anna Moore. My great-great-grandfather is Alexander (1849-1917) married to Julia Kennedy (1845-1906). They were married in Philadelphia, PA. Julia was a Catholic, but they were married in the Presbyterian church. However, all 16 children were baptized Catholic. Alexander converted to Catholicism later in his life.
