CARSON Family History

This interesting Scottish name is of uncertain origin but is probably a locational name, despite appearing to be patronymic. The development seems to be from Maurice Acarson, bailiff of the isle of Man, but this is uncertain. What is certain is that 'the Corsans or Carsans were an ancient Galloway family whose lineage ended in the direct line of James IV in the late 15th Century. The Carson's were provosts of Dumfries for several generations in the 16th century, and were also prominent in the local affairs of Kirkcudbrightshire. The early name holders were known for their ferocity, and in 1305 John a'Carson and his followers seized the castle of Dumfries...

    Elaine Carson

I am descended from Robert Carson, a linen weaver, born in Ireland.  He emigrated to Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, about 1800.  His wife was Mary Neil, also born in Ireland.  Of their Irish family history, I know nothing.  I can presume that they are from somewhere in Northern Ireland since Kilmarnock is a natural destination from there.  My DNA tests confirm various regions of Northern Ireland.  Robert and Mary's first child, John Carson was born in Kilmarnock in 1802.  From that, I imagine Robert was born about 1782 or earlier.

    Does anyone recognize my Robert??

Carson ancestors from the Ballymahon area of Longford County, Ireland. Born between 1790-1810 approx. Not sure if they are siblings or cousins or both. Simon Carson, army, ended up in Tasmania, Australia. David Carson Kilcommock, Longford. Jane Carson, Kilkommock, Maria Carson, same, John Carson (my g-g-grandfather) Kilglass, army, ended up in Ontario Canada. Susan Carson married James Leavy, ended up in Wisconsin USA. George Carson ended up in Quebec, Canada, James Carson no information after baptism. I am related to descendants of most of these people through DNA testing.
